Cold exposure reliably triggers norepinephrine release, increases alertness, and may improve mood and recovery perception. However, no human study has linked cold plunging to reduced mortality, disease prevention, or lifespan extension. The practice feels powerful — the catecholamine surge creates a genuine physiological response — but "feels good" and "extends life" are different claims.

The full evidence review — including why the catecholamine surge feels real but the longevity claims aren't supported by human data — is in Section 5 (Cold & Heat Exposure) of The Anti-Longevity Playbook.

Do cold plunges extend your life?

Cold exposure triggers real physiological responses (norepinephrine, alertness), but no human study links cold plunging to reduced mortality or lifespan extension.
