Intermittent fasting reliably produces weight loss — roughly equivalent to standard caloric restriction. However, no human study has demonstrated longevity benefits independent of weight loss. Time-restricted eating shows modest metabolic improvements in some studies but not others. The "autophagy" claims popular in longevity circles are extrapolated from animal data and short-term human biomarker studies.

The full evidence review — including why the autophagy claims are extrapolated from animal data and what human trials actually show — is in Section 3 (Fasting & Dietary Protocols) of The Anti-Longevity Playbook.

Does intermittent fasting extend lifespan?

IF produces weight loss similar to caloric restriction, but no human study shows longevity benefits beyond weight loss. Autophagy claims are largely extrapolated from animal data.
